Despite my rumor-mongering yesterday, Gov. Spitzer has NOT resigned. A NYT headline says, “Spitzer Said to Be Weighing Resignation.” Just full of certainty.
Last night while cooking dinner I couldn’t help but overhear the news blaring in the living room. One particular talking head mentioned that the U.S. is the only country in the world where news like this would be a scandal. I’m not sure I’d like to live in a country where the head of one of the most powerful states could essentially admit to the most hypocritical crime possible and not expect a reaction. Whatever your feelings about the legal status of prostitution/sex work, it is currently illegal, and Spitzer, as a public official and a crusader for integrity has absolutely no excuse. He should resign.

The NYTimes is now reporting that Spitzer is not just weighing resignation, but that it is likely.
